One of the short videos filmed and edited for WIRES (Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service, an Australian wildlife rescue charity based in New South Wales), to assist with their fundraising efforts online and on social media.
“A tiny orphaned wombat joey wandered up to the back door of a house near one of the bushfire zones. He chose the right door as the kind home owner was quickly on the phone to WIRES rescue line and Julie was able to collect him and take him for immediate vet assessment. Initially burns were clearly visible on his back but assessment and x-rays showed two broken legs as well.
A few weeks on and he is doing well. Wombat joeys have to stay in care for up to 18 months before they can be released back to the wild.”
